Dr. Mehdi Abbasi received the M.Sc. degree in electrical engineering from Isfahan University of Technology, Iran, in 2011. He completed his Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering from York University, Toronto, ON, Canada in 2019. He is the author of more than 20 IEEE journal and conference publications. Since May 2018, he has been actively contributing to research and development in SiC-based step-up converters at Northern Transformer Corp., ON, Canada. His research interests include high-frequency high-gain converters for renewable energy systems, soft-switched wide-bandgap based power converters and advanced control techniques.

Dr. Abbasi is a member of the IEEE Power Electronics Society (PELS) and the IEEE Industry Applications Society (IAS), and a frequent reviewer for IEEE Transactions on Power Electronics and IEEE PELS sponsored conferences. He was the recipient of the 2016 Lassonde's Carswell Scholarship. He also received the Student Travel Awards at the 2016 and 2017 IEEE Energy Conversion Congress and Exposition (ECCE); as well as the 2018 and 2019 IEEE Applied Power Electronics Conference and Exposition (APEC).
